Last weekend, nearly 3,000 blooms were on display at the Chicago Botanical Gardens for the National American Dahlia Society Show hosted by Central States Dahlia Society. Dahlia Society members from the United States and Canada traveled hundreds of miles to show off their blooms. It's hard to believe that many blooms made the trip on commercial airlines. Rosie and Eugene (River's Dahlias) managed to carry their blooms in a bag and Christine (Misfit Dahlias) packed blooms in a suitcase.
Forty-Five people from the dahlia societies across Michigan traveled with cars full of blooms and small bags for their personal essentials.
Seven exhibitors that listed Michigan Dahlia Society as their home society, received many First and Second Place Ribbons and a few members made the honor's table: including MDS president, Sharon Stroh and MDS membership chair, Melissa Koenig.
Please mark you calendars for the 2026 American Dahlia Society National Show in Grand Rapids, MI
Hosted by: West Michigan Dahlia Society
Dates: Staging Friday, August 28th and Saturday, August 29th
Open to the Public: Saturday, August 29th and Sunday, August 30th

Dahlia Shows
Dahlia shows are happening all over the United States and Canada. This past weekend many Michigan Dahlia Society members traveled to the West Side of Michigan or to Indiana to compete with other dahlia growers and have the general public see why "we" love dahlias.
Reminder: Michigan Dahlia Society's Festival is coming up quickly. We hope you will bring one or more of your blooms to display. If you love it and it has two leaves, bring it. There will be members to help you stage your dahlias.

Michigan Dahlia Society members,
Get ready to share the beauty of your dahlias! We're excited to announce our upcoming Michigan Dahlia Society Garden Walks, and we're looking for enthusiastic members to open their gardens to fellow dahlia lovers. If you are familiar with the Ann Arbor Garden Walks, this will be a similar process. We plan to have a list of gardens for the members to visit in a day. The tours will be self-guided, and you can visit all or a few.
This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your hard work, inspire others, and connect with fellow society members who share your passion for dahlias. Imagine strolling through diverse gardens, admiring different varieties, and exchanging tips and tricks with other growers.
We have two potential dates for these walks, and we'd love for you to choose which one works best for you:
Sunday, August 24th, 2024
Sunday, September 7th, 2024
If you're interested in volunteering your garden for one of these dates, please reply by email to the event coordinator and our Vice President, Si Chen at [email protected]. Please let her know your preferred date and include your name, garden address and a brief description of what members can expect to see in your dahlia display.
We appreciate your generosity in sharing your horticultural haven with the society. Your participation makes these events truly special!
Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
